While on our trip to DC, we got to meet Steve and Janie from our wonderful Vox neighborhood. They were kind enough to drive to us in downtown DC and meet us for lunch at Chipotle - great Mexican food. Then it was off to Starbucks (of course). They are just as lovely in person as they are in cyberspace. We chatted like old friends.
I'm finally caught up on my rest from our vacation last weekend. Isn't it funny how you can go on vacation but come back exhausted? Well it didn't help that our flight was delayed on the way back by a couple hours and so we didn't get home on Sunday night until almost 2am. But I digress...
We had a really fun time. It was pretty hot most of the time but not unbearable. We did a ton of walking. I can't believe all the sites we actually fit in to just 3 short days. We hit the National Archives, the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WW II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, The Pentagon (Ok well we just drove around it), The White House (same deal), The Air and Space Museum, The Natural History Museum and the National Cathedral.
And that doesn't count all the yummy places we ate. They have great restaurants in DC. My favorite was McCormick and Schmick's where we had a delicious (albeit pricey) seafood dinner. Yummy! Oh and I'm pretty sure I had Starbucks at least twice every day!
Here are some pictures of our lovely time.....
I have to say that the WW II Memorial was probably my favorite. It was so beautiful. The day we were there a large group of veterans were there on a tour. It brought tears to my eyes. I totally wanted to personally thank each one of them for their service to our country. It was really incredible.
These are the friends that came on the trip with us. We had so much fun. Keep in the mind that Kristy and I are both pregnant. She's only about 9 weeks behind me. We walked into the Reagan Building to go to their food court for a smoothie and one of the guards actually said "hey - you're both pregnant!" - like it was some anomaly to see not one but two pregnant women walking around. It was kind of funny. Plus several times we ended up dressed alike so it was pretty humorous to see us together. We had so much fun and I'm so glad that we got to do this together before we welcome babies #2 into our lives!
This was at the Air and Space Museum. I think Jim could have stayed here for a week. It was really neat - lots to see. We went to an Imax show (where I took a short nap!) and also the planetarium. I had never been to a planetarium before so it was pretty interesting. Liam Neeson told us all about Black Holes.
We also met up with Steve and Janie but I will give them their own special post! All in all, it was a great trip!
