So James turned 1 on December 27th but we were in Gatlinburg with my family so we had his bday party on Saturday January 5th. I'm just now posting pictures because our camera is a piece of crap on the fritz and my SIL graciously took the pics for me. She's a GREAT photographer.
We just had the family over for burritos and cherry/pineapple cobbler with ice cream. James got to open his presents. He got some wondeful things. It was a really great birthday!
I just found out that my sis-in-law in Iowa is now on Vox so I was checking out her blog today and ran across this post
I definitely will be printing the following out and putting it in some prominent place in my house. I've been doing really great lately with keeping my priorities straight and not getting too caught up in "to do" lists etc. but today is the first day of classes and suddenly I'm starting to feel overwhelmed and not on top of everything at home. This was just what I needed to hear to get me grounded before I take off into some spiral of frustration.
Come on, Moms out there....I just know that this will speak to you as it has to me! :)
We had the best time tonight! I invited a bunch of family members over for a cookout and we dressed James up in his pumpkin costume. He is just the cutest little boy ever (in my biased opinion)
We sat out on the driveway and handed out candy. There were some great costumes. One little person dressed up as the Cat in the Hat - how cool!
It was doubly fun for me because growing up I was never allowed to go trick or treating. I did get to dress up as a Bible character and play games at church for which we received candy so it's not like I was completely deprived but I always wondered what it would be like to wander the neighborhood with my friends collecting candy. So James got a little taste of that tonight - although he was only allowed to play with the unopened candy and we didn't let him wander too far.
His cousin Isaac dressed up like a dinosaur so we tried to get some pictures of them together. I think they both thoroughly enjoyed all the attention.
As soon as I put James in his costume he immediately realized that he was the center of attention and he was enjoying it immensely. He played up to everyone that came by and was generally just his happy self.
A fun night all around! We're so lucky to have family living close by so we can have these kinds of evenings together!
What a great Saturday! It was beautiful outside - sunny with a high of 75! Me, Jim, his parents, his sister, my mom, my brother, my nephew and James loaded up and drove an hour to Bell Buckle, TN. A town of only about 500 people, this weekend it was filled to way over capacity as hundreds of people came for the annual Webb School Craft Fair. It was awesome. They had anything you can think of - from jewelry to purses to wrought iron statues to quilts to scrapbooking stuff to wood carvings to paintings...you name it and it was there. The food was all nice and fried, greasy and bad for you - but it tasted amazing! There's just no eating healthy at a fair. Not when there are such things as fried twinkies, bloomin' onions, funnel cake and barbeque!
We stayed all afternoon and James had a blast. He loves his stroller and we just took him everywhere. Lots of people brought their animals so that was fascinating for him. He even saw a horse and some sugar gliders (these little squirrel looking things - actually pretty cute).
It was a great day - even if it had some stressful beginnings for mom (see my earlier post)
After church Jim, James and I along with Jim's sister Laura and her husband Wayne went to Jim's mom's house to have lunch.
Uncle Foster is in town visiting and had not yet met James. He was the life of the party and we had some incredibly delicious home cooked food - meatloaf, potatoes and squash, spinach salad, corn and made from scratch biscuits!!
Ahh! I love Sundays! Great message at church...beautiful sunny day - high of 75....and now home for a wonderfully restful NAP!
Life is good!
On Wednesday I took James to see his grandma who lives about 45 minutes from us. She's my mom's mother and she's had liver cancer for the past 3 years and is in her final weeks. James was his usual happy, smiley self and he sat in my grandma's lap for awhile just talking to her and playing with her little toy poodle, Michelle. Despite feeling tired and worn out, my grandma was in great spirits. She's really accepted where she is and she knows that she is going home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She's has more joy than I've ever seen her have and as soon as you walk in the room you can just sense the peace of God. I'm so glad that she has been able to see James and spend some time with him. Here are a few pictures that I took....
